A hundred years ago, the Standard Coosa Thatcher Mill in the heart of Chattanooga’s Oak Grove neighborhood was one of the biggest and busiest textile production facilities in the southeast, an icon of Chattanooga’s manufacturing might. Its closure and abandonment in the early 2000s led to a long period of disinvestment in this once-thriving neighborhood — a neighborhood left behind while the rest of Chattanooga moved forward.

Mill Town is situated amid some of Chattanooga’s most ethnically rich and diverse communities. Dreamers and cultural leaders never lost faith, and the mill itself stands as an enduring testament to what was and what can be again.

Today, we’re building a new model for how a community can grow. A place where diversity and sustainability aren’t just buzzwords, they’re bragging rights. Where the arts aren’t just for entertainment, they’re for engagement. And where craft is appreciated — in the homes, in the workplaces, and in the lives we build together.
